03The island

Ngu Lam Peak

The climb to Ngu Lam Peak is the island's signature walk. A stepped path and a final scramble over limestone lead to a metal lookout tower with a sweeping view over ridge after forested ridge.

Short answer

Allow 1.5–2.5 hours return from the park headquarters. It is short but steep and rocky; go early, wear proper shoes and carry water.

01The trail

From the headquarters, the route starts on a paved path through the Kim Giao forest, named after the tall kim giao trees prized for their wood. It soon turns into steep stone and concrete steps, then into a rougher path over jagged rock near the top. The last section involves using your hands. At the summit, a small steel tower lifts you above the treetops.

02The view

From the tower you look across the island's hills in every direction: green, layered and almost without buildings. On clear days you can see out to the bay. In the winter mist the view may vanish, but the forest walk is still worthwhile.

03Tips

  • Start by 08:00 in summer, the climb is exposed and heat builds fast
  • Wear shoes with grip, the rocks are sharp and slick after rain
  • Climb the tower one or two at a time and hold the rails, it can sway in the wind
  • Combine with the Kim Giao loop and Trung Trang Cave for a half day
