Short answer
Reach Viet Hai by boat from Ben Beo pier to Viet Hai pier, then cycle or ride an electric cart into the valley. Or trek in through the national park and take a boat back. Stay a night if you can.
01Getting there
By boat
Boats leave from Ben Beo pier for Viet Hai pier. Speedboats take about 25–30 minutes, slower local boats longer. Homestays can arrange a transfer if you message them a couple of hours ahead.
From the pier to the village
A narrow concrete lane winds a few kilometres inland. Rent a bicycle at the pier or ride an electric cart; walking takes about an hour.
On foot through the park
The long trail from the national park headquarters via Frog Lake comes down into the valley. Plan a full day and a boat back. See Hiking.
02What to do
- Cycle the quiet lanes between rice fields and the cliffs
- Walk to small waterfalls and viewpoints with a local guide
- Eat home-cooked meals with ingredients from the gardens
- Combine with a Lan Ha Bay boat day on the way in or out
03Staying overnight
The evening, after the day visitors leave, is when Viet Hai is at its best. A handful of homestays and bungalows offer simple rooms, often with shared bathrooms and fans; a few newer places have more comfort. Electricity and hot water can be limited. Book ahead and confirm the boat pick-up. See Homestays.
