We collect as little data as possible. There are no user accounts, no forms and no advertising cookies, and analytics only run if you allow them.

01Who runs this site

The Cat Ba Island Guide (www.cat-ba.com) is an independent, English-language travel guide to Cat Ba Island and Lan Ha Bay in northern Vietnam. We are not a tour operator or travel agency.

02What data we process

  • Server logs: when you open a page, the web server records technical data such as your IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time. These logs are used only to keep the site secure and working and are deleted after a short period.
  • Email: if you write to us, we use your address and message only to reply. We do not add you to any mailing list.
  • Your cookie choice: your decision in the cookie banner is stored in your own browser (localStorage), not on our server.

We do not run user accounts, comment sections, newsletters or contact forms, and we never sell personal data.

We use Google Analytics 4 to count visits and see which pages are useful, so we can keep the guide accurate. Google Analytics is set up with Google Consent Mode v2: by default analytics storage is denied, and no analytics cookies are set until you click "Accept analytics" in the cookie banner. IP addresses are anonymised.

Advertising features, ad personalisation and ad user data are always switched off on this site.

You can change or withdraw your consent at any time on the Cookie Policy page. Google's own processing is described in the Google Privacy Policy (policies.google.com/privacy).

Some links to hotels, tours and eSIMs are affiliate links to Klook and Airalo, tracked through the Travelpayouts network. If you book after clicking one, we may earn a small commission. The price you pay is the same.

When you follow such a link, Travelpayouts and the partner site may set their own cookies to attribute the booking. This happens on their websites and is governed by their privacy policies, not by this one.

05Third-party services that load with our pages

  • Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com, fonts.gstatic.com) delivers the typefaces used on the site.
  • unpkg.com delivers the Leaflet map library on pages with maps.
  • OpenStreetMap tile servers deliver the map images.

These services receive your IP address because your browser downloads files directly from them. They do not set cookies on our behalf.

06Your rights

If you are in the European Union, the UK or a country with similar laws, you have the right to access, correct or delete personal data we hold about you, to restrict or object to its processing, and to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. In practice we hold very little: usually only an email you sent us. To exercise your rights, write to info@cat-ba.com.

07Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle data, for example by adding a new service, we will update this page and the date at the top.
