02The Viet Hai trek

The classic long hike crosses the national park from the headquarters to the east side, passing Frog Lake (Ao Ech), a small forest lake, before descending into the Viet Hai valley. It involves rough, rocky trails with lots of up and down. From the village, cycle or ride an electric cart to Viet Hai pier and take a boat back to Ben Beo. Most people book it as a guided tour that includes the boat.

03Safety

  • Hike with company and tell your hotel your plan
  • Stay on marked trails; limestone terrain is confusing
  • Avoid the long trails after heavy rain
  • Carry a power bank and offline map
  • Turn back if you are behind schedule; darkness falls fast
